Innes Meek is a psychotherapist in London. Working across a variety of issues, Innes's approach is to engage with individuals to help address whatever it is that is preventing them from living a full, free, and engaging life.
Innes trained in London, where he completed a Masters Degree in Psychotherapy and Counselling, followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Psychotherapy. He has worked in a number of clinical and private settings, including within an NHS community mental health trust, where he worked with young people who have experienced psychosis; and within council funded psychotherapy services. Innes is BACP registered, and has completed the majority of his studies at Birkbeck, University of London, and Regent's University London. Innes has worked in Private Practice in London since 2021.
Psychotherapy provides a space for you to talk freely and openly, safe in the knowledge that you won't be judged. Innes's role is different to that of a friend, who might typically seek to tell you that "all is not as bad as it seems" but instead to explore your difficulties at your own time, whilst adhering to strict confidentiality protocols.
Therapy can be a unique opportunity to take the time to explore your life to better understand who you are. Socrates said that the unexamined life is not worth living, highlighting that we can all benefit from examining ourselves.
Through understanding and exploration of who you are, psychotherapy can be utilised to facilitate change in your life. This change can manifest in many ways, including reaching an understanding of why you act or react in a certain way to particular stimuli, and learning to accept the way you are, the way you have been, and the way you will be.
People choose to come to therapy for many different reasons. Issues Innes has helped clients with include:

The short answer is that counselling is a space for people to explore current issues and to learn coping mechanisms for dealing with them whereas psychotherapy will often involve going deeper. The training levels for psychotherapists are typically higher than for counsellors, particularly if psychotherapists are to be members of governing bodies such as BACP.
Client confidentiality is a fundamental principle upon which psychotherapy depends for success. Innes is held to the highest professional standards as outlined under the BACP ethical framework.
